The HealthMeasures team supports the use of state-of-the-science measurement systems–PROMIS®, Neuro-QoL™, NIH Toolbox®, and ASCQ-Me®–through a combination of software solutions, licensing and permissions, research tools, and expert consultation.

Assessment Center API

The API is a secure, locally installed plug-in measure library that integrates computer adaptive tests (CATs), short forms, and profiles into your digital platform, app, or data collection system with automatic scoring and score interpretation. Many platforms, including REDCap, have integrated the API to make HealthMeasures available to their users.

Epic PROMIS Application

PROMIS CATs, short forms, and profiles are available within Epic’s native questionnaire functionality with automatic scoring and score interpretation. License the Epic PROMIS application through Epic’s Showroom.

NIH Toolbox iPad App

The NIH Toolbox iPad App enables tablet-based administration of NIH Toolbox Cognition, Emotion, Motor, and Sensation tests in research and clinical settings. The app is available for download and purchase through Apple’s App Store.

Static Forms

Static short forms and profiles are available as respondent-ready PDFs for paper or digital administration when one of the above platforms is not used. For digital administration, the HealthMeasures Electronic Administration Permission (HEAP) process provides a permission letter and screenshot review to ensure validity is retained.

Permission to Translate

Organizations seeking new HealthMeasures translations must obtain a license. The HealthMeasures team manages the translation process, including referral to approved vendors, quality review, and harmonization across languages.

Manual Scoring

Free scoring manuals with instructions and scoring tables are available for standard measures when HealthMeasures software tools are not feasible. Custom scoring tables are also available for a fee. HealthMeasures software tools such as the Scoring Service and API use a preferred scoring method that accommodates missing data and produces more precise scores.

Consultation & Scientific Collaboration

The HealthMeasures team at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine is comprised of psychometricians, measurement scientists, qualitative methodologists, and health informaticians with extensive expertise in patient-reported outcomes research and clinical outcome assessment. Consultation and collaboration services are available on a fee-for-service basis or as co-investigators on grants. Examples of consultation areas include:

Disseminate Your Measure

Measure developers seeking to disseminate a new measure within the HealthMeasures infrastructure have two options:

Integration into the Assessment Center API

Measures can be added to the Assessment Center API for broad dissemination while remaining under the developer’s stewardship and branding.

Adoption into PROMIS or Neuro-QoL

Measures that fill a gap in an existing HealthMeasures measurement system and meet all scientific standards can be considered for full adoption as an official PROMIS or Neuro-QoL measure, managed and disseminated through HealthMeasures.
